Fate of Earth - Fate of Birth

"FATE OF EARTH - FATE OF BIRTH" explores our culture's dependence on technology, not only do we trust machines more than nature and our capabilities, but we also use machines to shield us from natural passages of life such as birth and death. A family centered birth experience at home seems to benefit the newborn and reinforces the natural mother-child bond. Since our cultural rituals reflect and shape our cultural values, changing our childbirth rituals to celebrate nature could enhance our valuing of the Earth.

Can we learn anything from the Oil Slick Disaster?

For Immediate Release

Can the Oil Slick Disaster Prevent Your Kids from Becoming Disasters?

During the 2008 U.S. election, the slogan "drill, baby, drill" was a favorite chant. But now that, "Spill, baby, spill," is the new mantra, perhaps it’s time to find a better way? Or so says award-winning author Dr. Jeffrey Fine, who sees a connection between this ecological disaster and the harsh birthing and parenting techniques that have been a disaster for us all.

Recently rewarded with the prestigious national Nautilus Gold Award (which honors authors who promote spiritual growth, green values, and positive social change) as well as a Living Now Book Award (which rewards those who "help readers learn about enriching their lives in wholesome, Earth-friendly ways"), this renowned psychologist contends that the mindset that’s favored fossil fuels over renewable energy is identical to the one that’s led to cold and sterile hospital births, bottle feeding, and other practices that foster separation rather than attachment.

Saying that we intuitively understand that systems that call for dominion and control are opposed to what God and Nature intends, he points to a gaping disconnect between the way people should be living, and the way they actually live.

"Decade after decade, Americans overwhelmingly respond to the idea that everything is connected, by patronizing movies like Star Wars, Dances With Wolves, and AVATAR," says Dr Fine, "yet then continue to support TV propagandists, and put their babies in day care." They respond to green ideas, but readily tune them out, in favor of outmoded ways of living.

This disconnect, he believes, is at the root of the woes in the Gulf, the classroom and American cities. Saying that the very fabric of our culture and country is at stake if we don’t alter our ways, this former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce advocates green energy, as well as green parenting techniques. New moms and dads can do their part, he advises, by connecting with nature, sleeping with their babies, and engaging in simple low-teach creative play.

Other techniques are featured in his book, THE ART OF CONCIOUS PARENTING: The Natural Way to Give Birth, Bond With, And Raise Healthy Children (which he wrote with his wife, Dalit Fine, M.S.), which, in addition to winning two prestigious national awards, has been heralded by noted author Thom Hartman as possibly "one of the most important books you read this year."

The Bulldozing of America

Why Avatar Didn’t Win the Oscar: The Corporate World is Bulldozing America

When Katherine Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker won for “Best Picture,” many believed that James Cameron’s Avatar had been robbed. Speculation focused on Oscar politics and the directors’ ill-fated marriage. But noted psychologist Dr. Jeffrey Fine says the reason is simpler: Avatar didn’t win because the Academy missed the movie’s deeper meaning and chose a “real-life” film instead.

Those who’ve argued that Avatar mimics Dances With Wolves or Pocahontas prove Dr. Fine’s point. “The message in Avatar is not a simplistic return to nature or to a previous evolutionary stage,” he argues, adding, “It may be the next leap in the evolution of consciousness, and the only one that may hold the promise of survival.”

Pointing to the greed and cynicism that not only mark much of American culture, but have hardened American hearts, he says that unless we wake up to Avatar’s message, humanity will be lost. “This film should be seen by every man, woman and child” he says, suggesting that parents should take their teens and tweens to see it and discuss hidden meanings. “I see you," for example, comes from the Sanskrit Namaste, which translates to: "The God in me sees the God in you" or “I see myself in your eyes.”

Like Star Wars, Avatar also appeals to our collective unconscious, or world soul. The Na’vi experience of unity of consciousness with other beings, all of which (themselves included) are really just manifestations of One Awa, or Yahweh -- echoing our ancestors’ belief in an interconnected, ever changing intelligent web of life, symbolized by the World Tree.

Unfortunately, says Dr. Fine; Avatar’s “everything is connected” message lies in glaring contrast with the culture of separation most Americans experience. Focusing on a rise of the feminine, and the importance of bonding, this movie offers a blissful alternative to a world where mothers are devalued, and babies sent to day care at the ripe old age of six weeks.

In the end, Dr. Fine concludes; this film is about standing at a crossroads: What do we choose for our children; commercial materialism or reconnection with all life? “Sadly,” says Dr Fine, “the bulldozers in Avatar represent what corporate, modern life have done to us -- steamrolling our soul and consciousness.”

A former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce, and a member of the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health, Dr. Fine says we can help combat this separation by engaging in conscious child-centered parenting. He suggests that new mother’s breastfeed, sleep with their babies, connect with nature, and engage in simple low-tech creative play.

His book, THE ART OF CONCIOUS PARENTING: The Natural Way to Give Birth, Bond With, And Raise Healthy Children (which he wrote with his wife, Dalit Fine, M.S.) has been praised by child development experts worldwide.

Most Americans Abuse Their Kids

Mo’Nique Portrays a Mother from Hell in Precious, but This Psychologist Claims that MOST Americans Abuse Their Kids

Florida -- March 8, 2010 --

The movie Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, tells the story of a teenager who is habitually abused by a mother from hell.

And while Mo'Nique has won accolades for her portrayal of evil personified, Dr. Jeffrey Fine hopes her award-winning role serves as a wake up call to moms and dads everywhere.

“Parents need to look at the epidemic of abuse and neglect in modern day America,” says Dr Fine, a psychologist with 30 years experience. Pointing to ways most abuse starts out small and builds upon itself, he says brain-damaging trauma can also occur when parents spank their kids, abandon them in day care, or ignore their needs in a myriad of ways.

“This neglect begins in infancy,” Dr. Fine warns. “What’s the message mothers give their kids while plopping pacifiers in their mouths? I don’t have time to nurse you. Your needs are not important.”

Dr. Fine, whose work as founder and director of the American Foundation for Conscious Parenting places him at the forefront of effective parenting trends, believes it’s time for parents to free themselves from the shackles of America’s materialistic, career-obsessed culture.

“American society is not child friendly,” Dr. Fine asserts, saying that motherhood has been trivialized, with devastating consequences. “Though it’s not politically correct to admit it, children who are raised by parental substitutes, whether by nannies or by day care, do not get their needs met, and suffer as children and adults.”

A former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce, and a member of the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health, Dr. Fine stresses that moms and dads should shun unhealthy societal norms and engage in conscious child-centered parenting. He suggests that new parents sleep with their babies and engage in baby-wearing instead of stroller use and cites breastfeeding, contact with nature, and simple low-tech creative play as ways to raise happier, healthier children.

His book, THE ART OF CONCIOUS PARENTING: The Natural Way To Give Birth, Bond With, And Raise Healthy Children (which he wrote with his wife, Dalit Fine, M.S.) has been praised by child development experts worldwide.

Food Addiction: Why Weight Loss Resolutions Are Destined to Fail

As holiday parties give way to New Year’s resolutions, rehabs across the country become inundated, making early January one of the industry’s busiest times of the year.

Most doctors agree that addiction is a disease, not a moral failing, and people are becoming increasingly aware that addictions to drugs, alcohol, and even cigarettes require treatment for the underlying illness, without relying on willpower alone. Yet even as sex addiction makes headlines (thanks largely to speculation about Tiger Woods), food addiction remains largely ignored, despite, as Jeffrey Fine, Ph.D., points out, it being the largest “quiet” addictive disorder in the U.S.

“Food addiction is one of the least-diagnosed and most easily treated addictions out there,” says Dr. Fine, a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and psychologist with more than 30 years of experience. Marked by obsession with food, eating as means to relieve stress, feeling guilty about overeating, and a host of other symptoms, it causes as much damage as addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Unfortunately, most people try to mask and manage symptoms rather than addressing the underlying addictive disorder, which is why most weight loss resolutions don’t work. Food addiction also fuels the American weight loss industry, which raked in approximately $50 billion last year.

Another complication lies in the fact that unlike drugs and alcohol, which can be avoided, food is a necessity. “While drunks who get sick and tired of being sick and tired can put a cork in the bottle and go to AA, it is not so simple with FOOD,” says Dr. Fine. “YOU CAN’T STOP EATING.”

Dr. Fine has had great success where “dieting” has failed. Helping people overcome addictions with his Web-based phone therapy practice at http://www.theNewParenting.com, he was the owner and operator of a Fasting & Vegetarian Spa and Resort in Florida for 8 years. “I know and understand the way out of the vicious circle of food and diet struggles,” says Dr. Fine, whose diet resolution solutions help people finally lose weight, while restoring health, self-esteem and well-being.

A member of the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health and former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce, Dr. Fine is also co-author of THE ART OF CONCIOUS PARENTING: The Natural Way to Give Birth, Bond With, and Raise Healthy Children, which he wrote with his wife, Dalit Fine, M.S.

Psychologist Reveals the Core Cause of Most Holiday Squabbles

How the Ghosts of Yesterday’s Neglect Poison Today’s Family Gatherings

Miami -- Dec. 15, 2009 - Holiday dysfunction took a fatal turn this past Thanksgiving when a Florida man shot and killed four family members. According to the police sergeant in charge of the investigation, there had been "ongoing resentment" in the family. And while most holiday squabbles don’t turn deadly, Dr. Jeffrey Fine, Ph.D., says that such resentments are commonplace in American families, which often place a higher value on American Idol and celebrity gossip than on childrearing techniques.

“The dysfunction in most families in our society is a breeding ground for repressed hostility and rage left over from childhood,” says Dr, Fine, a psychologist with 30 years experience. “Overworked and under-prepared parents think nothing of neglecting a child by abandoning it alone for hours and days. They ignore the cues and cries of the baby, and unknowingly affect their children in inappropriate and harmful ways.”

Saying that this deprivation brings about “hormonal" outbursts of repressed rage, he believes that most holiday gatherings are plagued by the ghosts of neglect, abuse and other ills. “Holidays bring families close together with too many unresolved unspoken resentments and differences,” says Dr. Fine, whose work as founder and director of the American Foundation for Conscious Parenting aims at preventing and resolving issues caused by childhood trauma. And while the past can not be undone, families can often diffuse old tensions before they arise.

Dr. Fine suggests deflating any unconscious negative feelings in other family members by opening a conversation with, "If I have offended or hurt any of you by anything I might have said or done, or not said or not done, I ask for your forgiveness on this holiday."

A former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce, and a member of the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health, Dr. Fine stresses that moms and dads can take proactive measures to ensure happy holidays for years to come. He suggests that new parents sleep with their babies and engage in baby-wearing instead of stroller use and cites breastfeeding, contact with nature, and simple low-tech creative play as ways to raise happier, healthier children.

TOP 10 TOYS THAT WILL SCAR YOUR CHILD FOR LIFE

TOP 10 TOYS THAT WILL SCAR YOUR CHILD FOR LIFE

Prominent Psychologist Warns Against Popular Christmas Gifts

Las Vegas -- Dec. 7, 2009 --

A couple years ago, lead paint in toys manufactured in China sent parents searching frantically for gifts made in the USA. This fall, news of Baby Einstein refunds suggested that even so-called educational toys are suspect. Renowned parenting expert Dr. Jeffrey Fine, Ph.D., says that such videos are actually harmful to developing brains, retarding language development and shortening attention spans. Moreover, there is an increased sense of separation, which is the defining trait of each of this holiday season's most harmful gifts.

A psychologist with 30 years experience and founder and director of the American Foundation for Conscious Parenting, Dr. Fine specializes in ways modern life devalues parent and child relationships and desensitizes children in the process. Whether parents use videos as “electronic babysitters” for toddlers, purchase paintball guns for preteens, or buy games which encourage teenagers to earn points by killing others, they are feeding into an increasingly toxic culture, while contributing to rising rates of ADHD and violent and aggressive behavior in children.

According to Dr. Fine, “Today’s lifestyle is one of separation, and people don’t have the ability to be intimate. Videos and video games increase this sense of isolation, and can have long lasting devastating effects.” Saying that parents should encourage low-tech creative play, which boosts imagination and problem solving, he also targets toys which decrease physical activity and limit social interaction, such as the exercise bike/video game combo, the Smart Cycle, which, like Baby Einstein, has a name which can be misleading.

This Christmas, dehumanization of “the other” has taken an especially violent turn, with the addition of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is expected to become a bestseller, despite controversy over graphic scenes depicting the slaughter of innocents. And while it’s no surprise that games like Grand Theft Auto have been desensitizing teens to violence for years, some games, such as Lego’s Batman video game, even encourage preschoolers to engage in violent behavior.

A member of the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health and former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce, Dr. Fine, (who is also co-author of THE ART OF CONCIOUS PARENTING: The Natural Way To Give Birth, Bond With, And Raise Healthy Children, which he wrote with his wife, Dalit Fine, M.S.), adds that there are plenty of age-appropriate toys which benefit children and counsels parents to choose gifts which increase family bonding time.

30 July 2009:

President Obama presented with startling book

Release on Thursday 7/30/09

PRESIDENT OBAMA PRESENTED WITH STARTLING BOOK “The Art of Conscious Parenting” American Foundation for Conscious Parenting

President Obama is presented with a pre-publication copy of “The Art of Conscious Parenting”. It is being presented by the American Foundation for Conscious Parenting. The book is published by Inner Traditions Press and is on Amazon. It is being given to the President on behalf of the grass roots movement of more than twenty million American families who follow a natural birth and parenting lifestyle.

The President is an avid reader, particularly of books that can inform his presidency and in leading the country.

It is given in the hope that Mr. Obama and his advisors support and include Alternative Medicine, Midwifery and Birth Reforms in his Health Care Plan before congress for a vote on the first of August.

It is also hoped that with this Plan, much of the present care-cost and suffering will be alleviated. It is further hoped that Mr. Obama will provide for the education of American parents enabling a regeneration of the American family.

It is believed by many scientists and thinkers that the methods presented in this book will help defer the cost of putting unthinkably expensive bandages on national health problems. In its place it will help people use simple low-tech solutions that provide the ounce of prevention humanity needs so dearly today.

“The Art of Conscious parenting” comments Dr. Jeffrey Fine, will not only save families energy and money, but billions of wasted dollars for the government and industry in future medical expenses and lost hours of work due to depression, addictions, and broken homes.

In the words of Thom Hartmann Author of “The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight; And What We Can Do Before it’s Too Late”, “If you have, or are considering having children, The Art of Conscious Parenting could be the most important book you read this year.”

The aim of the presentation to the President and this press release is to awaken the American public to the crises in our midst, and to bring this information to the individuals and committees responsible for our health policies.
